A court in Sweden has decreased the penalty given to Kindred Group’s division, Spooniker, concerning a breach of bonus rules in 2019.
Originally, the Swedish Gaming Authority (SGA) hit Spooniker with a substantial SEK 100 million (approximately $9.46 million) penalty as it viewed certain promotions and bonuses provided by Spooniker as financial inducements, essentially categorizing them as bonuses, which violated the regulations then. Kindred adhered to the SGA and modified its offerings.
Nevertheless, Kindred contested the ruling, seeking clearer directions on the understanding of the updated bonus regulations. The court initially lowered the penalty to SEK 50 million, and now, in a recent turn of events, it has been further diminished to SEK 30 million.
Kindred still asserts that the guidelines were ambiguous and open to interpretation, contending that the penalty should be entirely dismissed.
