The Netherlands’ gaming regulatory body, Kansspelautoriteit, has mandated that Catena Media halt all promotional activities aimed at the Dutch market. The authority determined that the affiliate marketing powerhouse’s advertisements for various internet gambling enterprises breached Dutch regulations.
Catena Media, headquartered in Malta, could face a substantial penalty of up to €21,000 for non-compliance. The firm employed several web platforms, including pellenoverzicht.com, gokoverzicht.com, and netentcasino.nl, to draw Dutch participants to various iGaming providers. These sites are now blocked for Dutch users.
This action forms part of a wider initiative by the Netherlands to oversee online gambling. New rules implemented in May forbid iGaming firms and their partners from utilizing distinctly Dutch imagery, such as windmills and tulips, to entice local players. Furthermore, Dutch users cannot be redirected to .com websites from .nl domains.
The Dutch Senate is presently deliberating on a comprehensive iGaming statute, anticipated to be enacted sometime in 2018.
