The group, formed by Thailand’s legislative body, will examine the viability of launching entertainment venues that incorporate casinos.
In the preceding month, Thailand’s second-in-command, Somsak Thepsuthin, proposed legitimizing additional forms of wagering to produce government income and offer aid to those requiring assistance.
Rangsiman Rome, affiliated with the Move Forward Party, voiced backing for the group but noted that prior parliamentary groups had probed this matter previously. He emphasized the necessity of addressing any potential drawbacks.
Chatchawal Kong-udom, a member of the Thai Nation Power Party, underscored the revenue leakage as a justification to endorse the initiative, as numerous Thai nationals journey to nearby countries to engage in casino pursuits.
He elaborated that founding five casino destinations across the nation would generate employment prospects for Thai residents.
Given that no representatives within the legislative body voiced opposition to the concept of conducting a more in-depth examination regarding the reactivation of these “establishments,” Presiding Officer Wan Muhamad Noor Matha assembled a group of sixty individuals to constitute a committee tasked with precisely that objective. They have been allotted a timeframe of ninety days to deliver a comprehensive account to him.
